Easter.

The strange thing about easter is that for many years it was seen as a time for remembering, and for thinking back on what happened that easter around 36.ad. And praising Jesus for taking on the sins of humanity and sacrifising himself for everyone else.
these days its in large parts of the world that celebrates easter being percieved to be just another week of vacation from work and school.

other things that I got a bit confused about is that here easter vacation is a time to go to the mountans for the weekend to go skiing, or go to warmer regions of the planet for a few days vacation. In other countries it is a time to remember and praise the sacrifice of Jesus getting crusified. and other places like the Philipines, people crusify themselves to feel the pain fo getting nailed to a cross, in the beliefe that doing that they get closer to God and to Jesus.
to me, getting themselves nailed to a cross seems more like madness than anything else.

It seems like the original message of easter has been largly forgotten or ignored over the centuries. For instance: The decorations that are used for easters are chickens and eggs. In the states they got the easterbunny and his eggs. (As far as I know, rabbits do not lay eggs..) I have no idea what so ever where that tradition came from.
Here in europe the traditions are to decorate the house with yellow chickens and colored eggs. I have never figured out the origins or point of that tradition either.

One other thing is that for some countries that celebrate easter, the 2nd day of easter is a regular working day, and for other countries, its one more holiday.
Today I talked to Isabel that is in Mexico. there the 2nd day of easter is a work day. and here in Norway the 2nd day of easter is a holliday.
